Janet Matthews is a fine art photographer who works with both digital and historic processes. She earned a BA in Studio Art from the University of Maryland and later earned a BA in Art Education from the same university. She was reintroduced to photography after becoming a high school art teacher in midlife. Her first teaching assignment included Photo 1. To brush up on her photography skills, she took continuing education courses at Maryland Institute, College of Art where she discovered an affinity for incorporating photography into her art practice. She has attended many photography workshops with instructors including Christopher James, Craig Stevens, Elizabeth Opalenik and others. Janet is a member of the cooperative photography gallery, Multiple Exposures Gallery, located in Alexandria, Virginia. Janet lives in Cheverly, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC.
