The Space Between
This project grew out of my affinity for making still life images. Having worked in this genre for several projects, I became interested in the idea of distilling the still life to its basic components: the arrangement of objects in a space within a frame.
- Could the space between and around the objects become the subject of the image?
- Could the distinction between object and space become ambiguous?
- How much information within the frame is necessary to create a coherent composition?
I explore these questions by photographing common objects, using very shallow depth of field. As the project progresses, the images have become more minimal. Yet there exists a realm for further examination, a place between the edges and the emptiness.
