The Space Between
This project grew out of my affinity for making still life images. Having worked in this genre for several projects, I became interested in the idea of distilling the still life to its basic components: the arrangement of objects in a space within a frame.
Could the space between and around the objects become the subject of the image?
Could the distinction between object and space become ambiguous?
How much information within the frame is necessary to create a coherent composition?
I explore these questions by photographing common objects, using very shallow depth of field. As the project progresses, the images have become more minimal. Yet there exists a realm for further examination, a place between the edges and the emptiness.
